Oh Sanjaya! The Kurukshe:thra was a great place in enriching their own qualities, whoever go on to that. My people Kauravas and Pa:ndu’s children Pa:ndavas with their people assembled there to wage the war. What exactly did they do there?
Note – This question indicates the foolishness of Dhruthara:shtra. He was not only blind physically, but also mentally. He knew that, the place kurukshe:tra enriches their own qualities only for anybody. Pa:ndavas are pious by nature. So their virtuous qualities will increase. Then, naturally such people do not want to fight with anybody. So Pa:ndavas also might not be interested to fight and go away from war field. But Dhruthara:shtra:s children, because they are always wicked, their bad qualities will increase. These kauravas, obviously would opt to fight and grab the whole kingdom.Since Pa:ndavas are peace mongers and do not want to fight, the kingdom will come to his children without any pain and Kauravas will rule forever. This is what he expected. But something seems went wrong and war was started. It was serious . And the unbeatable Bhi:shma:cha:rya, as he heard, fell down in the war field. Pa:ndavas would never try to kill Bhi:shma:cha:rya, their grand father.
When that be the case, while Bhi:shma:cha:rya was falling what Pa:ndavas were doing? And he was questioning what my people, for whom Bhi:shma:charya was the Chief, were doing? Were they passive, not fighting or protecting Bhi:shma:charya ? Otherwise, Dhruthara:shtra’s question would be like ‘kattham akurutha’ that means ‘how did they wage the war’. But not ‘kim akurvatha’ which translates as ‘what did they do’. This question itself says how that Dhruthara:shtra was totally blind in all respects. Every body in life will face many situations like that of a war. Sometimes there will be a victory but many a time one may lose. One may win a few battles, but at the end, one may totally lose in the war. It should be otherway round, right! Hence the aim should be like ‘ if necessary, let me lose a few battles but I should win the war finally’. Look! In spite of 11 akshauhinis, all the kauravas lost their war, because they were under the shade of such a bad person like Dhruthara:shtra. This says a moral “if you are under the shade of a wicked person , you lose everything”.
Pa:ndavas were saved, because they were thrown away by Dhruthara:shtra, a totally blind. It means “ you will always be saved even if you are thrown out by wicked people “
On the other hand, Lord Krushna accepted all the Pa:ndavas as His kith & kin. This made Pa:ndavas to win the war with less number of warriors only. This again says another moral “when you are under the care of great people, you will always win, overcoming all the hurdles and get success ultimately”. Similarly it conveys another truth also “if good people have an aversion towards you, no matter how many forces support you, eventually you will lose the war of life”. Something more to add here, Dhruthara:shtra was sorrow-sticken. He knew that he should take the guidance of someone to get rid of that. So, he appoached Sanjaya. When a person is appoached by us, we should appeal before him with obedience and should be able to listen to him. Here, King was curious with selfishness. So, Sanjaya’s guidance did not enter his mind at all. In the last slo:ka of Bhagavad Gi:tha, the realistic Sanjaya declared, “wherever there is krushna, Arjuna will hold his tools and does his duty without any deviation. Ultimately he wins war of life. This is my firm opinion”. But, the King did not care for this.
This is the reason why Dhruthara:shtra’s sorrow was never helped him to come out of his miseries. And hence, this Chapter was not named as dhruthara:shtra visha:da yo:ga.

Sanjaya = Oh Sanjaya!
Ma:maka:h = my people
Pa:ndava:ha+cha+e:va = and also pa:ndavas
Samave:tha:h = assembled
Kurukshe:thre: = at Kurukshe:tra
Dharma kshe:thre: = a place that enriches righteousness
Yuyuthsavaha = longing to fight with each other
Kim = what
Akurvatha? = did they do ?
