Text Box: Bhagavad Githa for ME

Text Box: Jai Srimannarayana!
Text Box: Arjuna became weak at heart. He was not even able to hold his bow and arrow. The great Arjuna felt feverish and fell down in the chariot saying, “Krushna, I don’t want to fight now. I do not wish to fight against my grandfather, guru, relatives and friends for the sake of kingdom. How can I enjoy the luxuries and the glories of a kingdom won by killing my own relatives?”

Krushna told Arjuna, “We are in the middle of two armies and everybody is ready to fight. At this moment if you don’t want to fight, they won’t spare you. You better fight.” But, Arjuna refused to fight at any cost. Then Krushna inspired him to do his duty to fight the wicked. In that process he enlightened Arjuna with divine knowledge. This divine teaching is Bhagavad Githa.

This teaching acted like a medicine upon Arjuna. It removed the mental weakness of Arjuna and rejuvenated his energy levels. It is the essence of all Upanishads and scriptures. Though it was given to Arjuna by Krushna in the war field, It is applicable to one and all. Thus,

Bhagavad Githa is a guide for the entire humanity. Krushna is the Guru of whole universe and we pray to Him as jagadguru saying Krushnam vande: jagad gurum. Bhagavad Githa was revealed to Arjuna in the age of pura:nas i.e. Dwa:parayuga, on the first day of the Kurukshe:thra war. It was the month of Ka:rthi:ka and the starting day of the war fell on Ama:va:sya day (new moon day).

Sanjaya was able to see the Warfield, even while sitting in the palace through the divine sight, blessed by the great sage, Ve:da Vya:sa,. Thus, the people in the world learnt about Bhagavad Githa through Sanjaya’s narration to Dhrutharashtra. It was on the 11th day of Ma:rgasira Ma:sa. So, Ma:rgasira Suddha Eka:dasi day is considered as the Jayanthi (birthday) of Bhagavad Githa.

Every one of us has dual nature in our personality, the good and the bad. We must eliminate the bad qualities and cultivate the good qualities. Then, we will be able to lead a successful and fruitful life. We have to do our duty sincerely. This is the essence of Bhagavad Githa in nutshell.

The duty of Arjuna, as a kshathriya (prince) is to conquer his enemies. So, he followed the advice of Lord Krushna and was able to fulfill his duty successfully and emerged victorious. As students, our duty is to study well, acquire good knowledge, behave properly etc. So, let us begin learning Bhagavad Githa, starting with the names of the 18 chapters and pray Lord Krushna to bless us with good personality and success in our lives.
